Is the higher the gear pressure of vehicle gear, the better?
The extreme pressure of the gear oil is too strong and can cause corrosive wear. Vehicle gear oils should have moderate extreme pressure to maintain proper load carrying and corrosion resistance. In the past, four-ball extreme pressure tests were commonly used to evaluate vehicle gear oils. It was wrong to assume that the maximum card-less bite load and sintering load were better. In addition, different types of extreme pressure agents perform differently in the four-ball machine test. For example, the sulfur-phosphorous-chlorine-zinc type oil has a higher p. p. value than the sulfur-phosphorus type oil, but cannot be used to derive the former. The conclusion is that the carrying capacity is higher than the latter. In fact, the sulfur-phosphorus-type compounding agent is used in only half of the sulfur-phosphorus-chloro-zinc type compounding agent, but the carrying capacity is comparable or even better.
