China Shipbuilding Industry Independently Develops 5MW Offshore Wind Turbine

With the support of the National Science and Technology Support Program, the 5MW offshore wind turbine unit independently developed by Chongqing Shipbuilding Wind Power Co., Ltd. was successfully rolled off at the production base of Tantalum Assembly.

The off-line 5MW offshore wind power generating unit belongs to the “three-blade, upwind, horizontal axis, electrical pitch, and grid-connected” type, with complete independent intellectual property rights, is currently the largest wind turbine diameter in the same type of aircraft. The unit with the lightest head and the highest generating capacity. The machine head is compact in structure and 15% lighter than the same level wind turbine. It is the lightest in the world at the same level. The length of the blades is 75 meters. The diameter of the wind wheel is up to 154 meters. It is the largest of its kind and is applicable to the wind zone III. The application scope covers more than 90% of wind farms, which can greatly increase the utilization of wind resources. The unit will be shipped to the Yellow Sea wind farm in Rudong, Jiangsu Province and will be connected to the grid for power generation during the year. x
