China's first energy calculator goes online

At the “International Conference on the 2050 Energy and Economic Development Path” held on September 18, the Energy Research Institute of the National Development and Reform Commission released the China 2050 Energy Calculator, the first analytical tool for energy economic development in China.

The Energy Calculator was created by the Energy Research Institute of the National Development and Reform Commission using the latest data development. Users can use this tool to simulate different scenarios and select the path China will take to achieve energy security by 2050.

The primary significance of this energy calculator is that it can provide data-based reference suggestions for decision makers, and professional departments and ordinary people can use it to provide suggestions for national energy decision-making.

In the past, when the country drafted related plans, it would also seek public opinions through the Internet and other channels. However, some of the public may not find favorable data to support the proposal. The energy calculator adopts an open system and is open to the public. The people can select data scenarios related to supply and demand, energy consumption, etc., and calculate it through the calculator. If valuable ideas or ideas are found, they can present on the platform. Related suggestions.

The tool covers the entire energy field. Its development was inspired by the UK 2050 calculator, and it has been adjusted and perfected based on China's national conditions. As the world’s first energy calculator, the British version of this tool was released in 2010, providing a comprehensive analysis of the UK’s reasonable path to a safe, low-carbon energy system by 2050.

“The 2050 calculator is a groundbreaking tool that can better plan future energy strategies through a transparent, evidence-based approach.” UK Energy and Climate Change at the "International Conference on the 2050 Path to Energy and Economic Development" Ministry of State Minister Ed David said.

Li Junfeng, deputy director of the Energy Research Institute of the National Development and Reform Commission and director of the National Strategy Research Center for Climate Change and International Cooperation, said in response to a reporter’s question that the next step is to continue to improve this analytical tool and keep pace with the times.

China and the United Kingdom will jointly promote this modeling method with 14 other developed and developing countries.
