A 2-11 alarm was called this afternoon for a fire on the North Side. The extra alarm was activated around 2 p.m. for a building on the 800 block of West Cornelia Avenue, drawing more than 100 firefighters to the scene, according to initial reports from Fire Media Affairs.

Before the alarm was reduced, it was upgraded to a 3-11 and an EMS Plan I was implemented.

About 3 p.m., the alarm was escalated to a 3-11, and an Emergency Medical Services Plan 1 was added as a precaution, according to fire spokesperson Quention Curtis.

At least one firefighter was checked for heat exposure, but no serious injuries were reported at the time, he said.

The fire impacted at least two buildings, including a three-story courtyard apartment building.
