Winnetka updates their apparatus

The Winnetka Fire Department, part of MABAS Division 3, has introduced a fresh look with their newly commissioned quint. The 2010 Smeal quint was delivered with a black roof, and the department designed an updated door seal. The new design features a gold and black Maltese cross that incorporates both the Winnetka and Kenilworth names. Engine 28, a 2000 Pierce Saber, now has a black top, the new decal, and updated striping. Ambulance 28 also received the same updates. However, Engine 28R and Ambulance 28R still retain the original appearance with the older door decal. ![WINN_decal](#) This image shows the new decal design for the Winnetka Fire Department vehicles. ![WINN_T28-LS](#) This is the 2010 Smeal Sirius quint, Truck 28, in its new livery. ![WINN_T28-5280-LS](#) This photo captures the retired 1990 Pierce Arrow 75' quint, which was recently decommissioned. It featured the latest door seal and two-tone striping. ![WINN_T28-LS](#) This image highlights the 1,250-GPM pump and 300-gallon water tank on Truck 28. Larry Shapiro photo When the department first received Truck 28 in 1990, the graphics were much simpler, and the door seal featured a sun rising over a lake. ![Winnetka_T70-900_ALF-LS](#) Before adopting the Station 28 numbering system as part of MABAS Division 3, the department used unit numbers like Truck 70. This American LaFrance 900-Series mid-mount aerial was one of their primary aerial devices. Larry Shapiro photo Before the switch to Station 28, the department had a 55-foot Snorkel in the station as well. ![WINN_E28-LS](#) Engine 28 now sports a black roof along with a triple stripe and the new door seal. ![WINN_E28-4575-LS](#) This image shows Engine 28 with its previous white roof and blue door seal. Larry Shapiro photo The old design on Engine 28 included lettering on the rear door listing both Winnetka and Kenilworth. The new decal keeps those names but provides more space for a cleaner, more modern graphic showing the unit number. ![WINN_E28_366-LS](#) This is Engine 28 as it was delivered from Pierce in 2000. Larry Shapiro photo At the time of its purchase, Engine 28 had the rising sun door decal, similar to the truck shown above.
