Working fire in Lindenhurst, 1-17-16
It was around 8 PM when I first heard about a house fire on Glenarye Drive in Lindenhurst. The reports started coming in rapidly, and by the time I reached the scene, the situation was already dire. The fire department from Lake Villa had just arrived at this large, two-story home engulfed in flames. It quickly became clear that the fire was too intense for them to handle alone, so they took a defensive stance, focusing on protecting the neighboring houses.
The conditions were brutal—high winds, freezing temperatures, and the sheer size of the fire made it nearly impossible to save the structure. Mutual aid was requested, and firefighters from Antioch, Gurnee, and Newport soon joined the effort. Despite their combined efforts, the home was ultimately a total loss. Fortunately, the adjacent houses sustained only minor damage.
As the night wore on, the firefighters worked tirelessly under challenging conditions. Their gear was quickly covered in ice due to the subzero temperatures, but they didn’t let that stop them. It was an exhausting yet inspiring sight to see these brave men and women battling the elements alongside the fire.
Attached are some photos I took during the incident. You can see how the icy conditions affected everything, from the fire engines to the firefighters themselves. Even the once-beautiful house now stood as a stark reminder of the destruction fire can bring.
These images capture just a fraction of what happened that night. The dedication and resilience of the firefighters are something I’ll never forget. It’s moments like these that highlight the true spirit of service and sacrifice.
