Troy FPD ushers in apparatus change

Karl Klotz recently visited the Troy Fire Protection District (FPD) in Shorewood, Illinois, and shared some exciting updates about the department's evolving identity. Known for their iconic lime green fire apparatus for years, the Troy FPD is now transitioning to a more modern and striking color scheme. New vehicles and those being repainted will feature a black roof with a deep maroon (dark red) body, marking a significant shift from their traditional look. The new color scheme has already been applied to several units, including Engine 2211, which is a 2009 Pierce Arrow XT 1500/1000 pumper. The updated design gives the vehicle a more professional and cohesive appearance, fitting for a department that continues to evolve with the times. In addition to the engine, Ambulance 2214—a 2010 Ford/Medtec MICU—has also been repainted in the new color scheme, featuring bold striping that enhances visibility and brand recognition. This change reflects a broader effort by the department to modernize its fleet while maintaining its strong community presence. Another notable update is Brush 2228, which uses a 2010 Ford pickup as its base. Though not a traditional fire truck, this unit still plays an important role in the department’s operations, and the new paint job brings it in line with the rest of the fleet. Overall, the shift in color is more than just aesthetic—it signals a fresh chapter for the Troy FPD as they continue to serve their community with modern equipment and a renewed visual identity.
