Troy FPD ushers in apparatus change
Karl Klotz recently visited the Troy Fire Protection District (FPD) in Shorewood, Illinois, and shared some exciting updates about the department's evolving identity. Known for decades for its iconic lime green fire apparatus, the Troy FPD is now transitioning to a more modern and bold color scheme. New vehicles and those undergoing repainting are now sporting a sleek black roof paired with a deep maroon body, marking a significant shift from their traditional look.
The change reflects a broader effort to modernize the department’s image while maintaining its strong community presence. One of the first units seen in the new colors is Engine 2211, a 2009 Pierce Arrow XT 1500/1000 pumper. The updated design adds a fresh visual identity that stands out on the road.
In addition to the engine, the department’s ambulance, Unit 2214, a 2010 Ford/Medtec MICU, has also been repainted in the new dark red and black scheme, complete with updated striping. This ensures consistency across the fleet and reinforces the department’s commitment to a unified appearance.
Another notable vehicle in the new color scheme is Brush 2228, which uses a 2010 four-door Ford pickup. While not a traditional brush unit, it serves an essential role in wildfire response and emergency operations. The new paint job gives it a more professional and cohesive look that matches the rest of the fleet.
These changes signal a new chapter for the Troy FPD, blending tradition with a fresh, modern aesthetic that better reflects today’s firefighting needs and public expectations.
