According to Reuters, the flooding in Thailand forced the suspension of production at three processing plants of Toyota Southeast Asia Export Center. The shortage of spare parts also caused Toyota to reduce its supply of products in nine countries. This month, Toyota Motor’s production lost 150,000 vehicles.
Industry insiders analyzed that due to the two disasters, the continued shortage of Toyota parts caused its sales to be forced to decline, which may make Toyota's performance this year behind GM and Volkswagen. According to the quarterly report, Toyota’s operating profit fell 32% year-on-year from July to September, and realized a net profit of 80.42 billion yen (a total of 642 million pounds), a year-on-year decrease of 18.5%.
