**BANGKOK, May 25, 2016** — The National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Science and Technology and Autodesk, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enhance Thailand’s manufacturing competitiveness by promoting the adoption of advanced 3D technologies and digital manufacturing solutions across industries. This partnership aims to support the nation’s transition toward a more innovative and technology-driven economy.
Dr. Pichet Durongkaveroj, Minister of Science and Technology, emphasized that Thailand must evolve from its current “Thailand 3.0†model to a “Thailand 4.0†strategy to become a developed country. This shift is crucial for moving from a middle-income to a high-income economy, where innovation becomes the driving force rather than traditional performance-based growth. "Industry 4.0 will play a key role in this transformation by integrating digital technologies into manufacturing processes," he said. "This will enable direct communication between consumers and manufacturers, reducing the need for large-scale production facilities as a competitive advantage."
The MOU also focuses on empowering local small and medium enterprises (SMEs) by providing access to digital tools that can improve design, engineering, and production efficiency. "By leveraging global leaders like Autodesk, we can help Thai talent develop skills that align with future industry demands," Dr. Pichet added. "This initiative supports government objectives in sectors such as biotechnology, renewable energy, engineering, and the creative economy, all of which contribute to improving quality of life and economic resilience."
Under the agreement, NSTDA and Autodesk plan to establish a 'Digital Manufacturing Platform' as part of Thailand’s National Digital Economy Master Plan. This platform will offer up to 100,000 engineers and vocational professionals access to Autodesk’s 3D design, simulation, and collaboration tools for three years. It aims to foster innovation, connectivity, and collaboration among local businesses.
Dr. Thaweesak Koanantakool, President of NSTDA, highlighted the importance of digital manufacturing in driving economic growth. "With the right technologies and skilled talent, Thailand can compete globally and meet the challenges of an increasingly digital world," he said.
Two core technologies within the platform are Autodesk Fusion 360 and A360 Team. Fusion 360 combines CAD, CAM, and CAE into one integrated solution, enabling seamless design, engineering, and manufacturing workflows. A360 Team enhances team collaboration by centralizing project data and fostering real-time communication.
Mr. Rama Tiwari, Regional Director of Sales at Autodesk ASEAN, noted that emerging technologies such as the Internet of Things, augmented reality, and additive manufacturing are reshaping the industry. "The Digital Manufacturing Platform gives Thai companies and talent the tools they need to transform every stage of the manufacturing process," he said. "This positions Thailand to lead in the future of making things."
In addition to the Digital Manufacturing Platform, the collaboration includes joint research initiatives and the development of technology infrastructure to support Smart Cities projects in Thailand.
