Autodesk Launches Dynamo Studio and FormIt 360 Pro at AIA

Two New Conceptual Design Tools to Enhance BIM Workflows

At the AIA Convention in Atlanta, Georgia, Autodesk unveiled two groundbreaking tools—Autodesk FormIt 360 Pro and Autodesk Dynamo Studio—designed to streamline and enhance the conceptual design phase of building projects. These tools are aimed at creating a more connected and efficient Building Information Modeling (BIM) workflow, making it easier for architects and designers to bring their ideas to life.

Jim Lynch, Vice President of the Building and Collaboration Product Line Group at Autodesk, emphasized the importance of integrating conceptual design into the broader BIM process. “For too long, the early stages of design have been isolated from the rest of the workflow,” he said. “With these new tools, we’re helping professionals create a more fluid, collaborative, and powerful BIM-based process.”

Introducing Autodesk FormIt 360 Pro

FormIt 360 Pro is an advanced version of the free FormIt 360 app, offering enhanced analysis and cloud collaboration features that were previously unavailable. It’s a web and mobile application designed for early-stage conceptual design, allowing users to sketch and iterate on ideas quickly using intuitive 3D modeling tools.

One of the standout features of FormIt 360 Pro is its ability to perform energy and solar analysis right from the start, giving designers immediate insights into the performance of their designs. It also includes shadow and sun path studies, as well as the option to import real-world site maps, making it easier to visualize how a design interacts with its environment.

Collaboration is seamless with FormIt Collaboration, which allows multiple team members to work on the same model simultaneously, whether they're on a tablet or desktop. With native Revit integration, users can easily transition from conceptual design to full BIM workflows. Additionally, the new FormIt Converter lets users import SketchUp and Revit models directly into FormIt 360 Pro as editable geometry.

Meet Dynamo Studio

Dynamo Studio is a standalone platform that enables designers to build visual logic for parametric design and automate complex tasks. Unlike previous versions, which required integration with other software, Dynamo Studio operates independently, making it more flexible and accessible.

This tool helps bridge the gap between conceptual design and downstream processes like documentation, fabrication, coordination, simulation, and analysis. Its compatibility with major design applications such as Revit, Navisworks, Robot Structural Analysis, Excel, SAP2000, Tableau, and Rhino makes it a powerful addition to any BIM workflow.

Dynamo Studio empowers users to create custom workflows that drive the behavior of building models, enabling faster problem-solving and more creative exploration of design options. By combining computational thinking with design, it supports a more dynamic and efficient approach to architectural development.
