Palos Heights FD history

Hey everyone, This message comes from Mike Summa. He recently came across an interesting photo slideshow on the Chicago Tribune website that he wanted to share with us. The slideshow features images from the 1940s and 1950s of the Palos Heights Volunteer Fire Department. Mike mentioned that he found these photos fascinating and thought we might enjoy them too. I’ve added some of the photos below so you can see what caught his attention. The first image dates back to 1943 and shows men who were part of building the new Palos Heights fire station taking a break to pose for a picture. In another shot from 1951, North Palos Fire Chief Fred Lange is seen examining the remains of a trailer home where three people tragically lost their lives in a fire. There’s also a picture of the Palos Heights Fire Department Station itself, showcasing how things looked back then. Another photo highlights the firefighters proudly showing off their brand-new fire truck. Fast forward to 1973, and we see members of the volunteer fire department preparing to respond to an emergency. And finally, there’s an image from 1980, where fire officials are searching for the cause of a devastating blaze in Palos Hills, which unfortunately resulted in two fatalities. Mike expressed his gratitude for sharing these historical glimpses into the firefighting community. It’s amazing to see how much has changed over the decades but also how dedicated individuals have remained committed to protecting their communities. Let me know if any of you have similar stories or memories tied to local fire departments—would love to hear about them! Best regards, [Your Name]

Fluid Steel Pipe

Seamless Pipe (and tubing) is made by extruding a steel block or by drilling a solid steel bar. Next, the extrusion or the drilled steel bar is cold drawn through a dye to achieve the diameter and thickness needed. Because this process can cause mechanical hardening, sometimes the material is annealed and straightened as a final process. Seamless Pipe & Tubing is subdivided as:
Cold Drawn Seamless, or CDS, exhibits precise tolerances and a good surface finish.
Hot Finished Seamless, or HFS, has less critical tolerances and somewhat scaly finish and is not as strong as CDS.
Seamless Steel Pipe, as the name s ests, is a pipe without a seam or a weld-joint. Seamless steel pipe is a tubular section or hollow cylinder, usually but not necessarily of circular cross-section, used mainly to convey substances which can flow - liquids and gases (fluids), slurries, powders and masses of small solids.
Ends: Plain end/Beveled, protected by plastic caps on both ends, cut quare, grooved, threaded and coupling, etc.
Surface Treatment: Bare, painting black, varnished, galvanized, anti-corrosion 3PE PP/EP/FBE coating.
