La Grange Park Live-Fire Training, 10/4/15

This is from Eric Haak:

I had the chance to attend a live-fire training session in La Grange Park on Sunday morning, October 4th. Fire crews from both the La Grange and La Grange Park fire departments conducted multiple drills, simulating fires on the first and second floors of a frame structure. The house was scheduled for demolition to make way for a new home, and it was one of the oldest buildings in that part of town. It was interesting to learn that the granddaughter of the original owners was on site and shared some memories — she said she remembered when cows would wander down the dirt road in front of the house.

During the early stages of the exercises, things were getting pretty smoky, but then something unexpected happened: a raccoon popped out from the eaves and made a quick dash for freedom before things got too intense. It was a nice little moment of surprise amid the training.

Thanks to all the fire companies involved for their hard work and hospitality during the event. It's always great to see the dedication and teamwork that goes into these kinds of exercises.
