Inverted U-tube high-pressure heater of Harbin Boiler Factory was successful
Recently, the 330,000-kilowatt unit's inverted vertical and three-stage heat transfer U-tube high-pressure heater, developed by Harbin Boiler Factory Co., Ltd., successfully completed a 168-hour trial operation at Unit 6 of Huaneng Xinhua Power Plant. This marks a major milestone in the company's technological advancement. Prior to this, the first two units of Huaneng Huaiyin Power Plant Phase II—Units 3 and 4—were equipped with similar inverted vertical, three-stage heat transfer U-tube high-pressure heaters. These were introduced in October 2004 and February 2005, respectively, and have been operating smoothly for over six months. All performance metrics have met or exceeded design specifications, proving the reliability and efficiency of the technology.
This achievement signifies that Harbin Boiler has successfully developed and commercialized large-capacity inverted U-tube high-pressure heaters, a critical component in thermal power generation. In China’s large-scale thermal power industry, horizontal U-tube high-pressure heaters have traditionally dominated the market. However, vertical U-tube models still hold significant importance, especially in certain applications where space and efficiency are key factors.
Before August 2003, only one domestic company had the capability to produce inverted vertical high-pressure heaters for 300,000 kW class units, with the rest of the market relying on imported products. To enhance its technical capabilities and challenge the monopoly in this sector, Harbin Boiler made a strategic decision to develop its own inverted vertical high-pressure heater technology.
The design of the inverted vertical high-pressure heater is significantly different from its horizontal counterpart. It features a more complex structure, which posed considerable challenges in both design and manufacturing. To overcome these obstacles, Harbin adopted a strategy of "self-development combined with advanced technology absorption, going out and bringing in." By studying and integrating technologies from Toshiba and Alstom, the company successfully developed its 330,000 kW inverted vertical high-pressure heater.
Following successful field tests, the product demonstrated excellent performance and achieved outstanding results. Currently, the company has already secured orders for 10 sets of this equipment, filling a critical gap in the market for large-capacity inverted U-tube high-pressure heaters. This development not only strengthens Harbin’s position in the domestic power equipment industry but also represents a step forward in China’s efforts to achieve self-reliance in advanced thermal power technology.
This equipment consists of machine frame, drive system, control system, and blending hopper, etc. When working, first load the material into bin and then lock the bin cover. Set the blending time, blending speed, and start the control system, the blending process begins. When reaching the set blending time, the equipment will stop automatically, and the blending process is finished.
