I’ve always been inspired by companies that use their influence to drive positive change—especially when they’re redefining entire industries. Factory_OS is one such company, and I’m thrilled to see Autodesk deepening its partnership with them. As a modular construction startup leading the charge in innovation, Factory_OS is not only reshaping how buildings are made but also proving that business can be a powerful force for good.
For years, Autodesk and Factory_OS have collaborated closely, using digital tools to transform the construction process. With design and engineering now integrated under one roof, the company is seeing faster problem-solving and smoother workflows. Some key improvements include:

As an essential business, Factory_OS is setting new standards in prefabrication. Based in Vallejo, California, the company uses a manufacturing-like approach to homebuilding, which significantly reduces costs, time, and waste. Their model is proving to be a game-changer in the affordable housing sector.
Last fall, they built an entire affordable housing complex in West Oakland in just 10 days—a feat that would typically take over a year using traditional methods. In San Francisco, they’re currently constructing supportive housing for formerly homeless individuals, marking the city’s first use of modular construction for such a project. The results? Millions saved and timelines cut by at least a year.
Interestingly, during the pandemic, while much of the construction industry slowed down, Factory_OS was able to continue operations because of its critical role in affordable housing. Their digitization efforts, worker training programs, and prefabrication techniques allowed them to quickly adapt to new safety protocols, including social distancing and touchless workflows. These lessons will now inform the setup of their next facility.
Factory_OS is also using the latest Autodesk investment to enhance workforce development. Larry Pace, co-founder and COO, explained:
