Working fire in Niles, 7-8-14

Late Tuesday evening, thick smoke was seen billowing out of an abandoned warehouse located in Niles, Illinois. Firefighting efforts were immediately focused on the exterior, as the structure sits within an industrial park at 7847 Caldwell Avenue. Due to the building's challenging location, an in-line pumping system was set up to ensure adequate water supply. An extra engine was dispatched to bolster the initial response, and firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control in approximately half an hour.
Attached are several images capturing the scene. The first photo shows a fire engine arriving at the warehouse, its lights illuminating the darkened area. In another shot, you can see firefighters hard at work setting up a ladder pipe to tackle the flames more effectively. There’s also a picture of the team cutting through a heavy metal overhead door to access the source of the fire. Other images highlight the impressive lineup of firefighting equipment, including a Pierce tower ladder and a quint that’s actively engaged in the pumping operation. A final photo captures the dramatic presence of a Pierce Dash CF PUC fire engine on the scene during the night.
