Working fire in Lindenhurst, 1-17-16
**From Jeff Rudolph:**
January 17, 2016
Around 8 PM, I started getting numerous reports about a house on fire in the 2800 block of Glenarye Drive in Lindenhurst. The FoxCom dispatch was flooded with calls. When the Lake Villa Fire Protection District arrived, they found a massive, two-story home fully engulfed in flames. Given the high winds, freezing temperatures, and the intensity of the fire upon their arrival, it quickly became clear that saving the structure wasn’t an option. The firefighters switched to a defensive strategy, focusing on protecting neighboring homes on both sides. Mutual aid came in from Antioch, Gurnee, and Newport, but the conditions made the situation incredibly challenging. Despite everyone’s best efforts, the house was a total loss. The homes on either side sustained only minor damage.
I managed to capture some photos during the incident. The first picture shows a fire engine completely covered in ice, which gives you an idea of how harsh the weather was. In another shot, you can see a brave female firefighter who, like everyone else, was encased in ice after hours of battling the blaze. The third image captures the sheer devastation of the fire itself, with flames lighting up the night sky. Another photo highlights yet another firefighter, also drenched in ice, standing amidst the chaos. Finally, there’s a broader view of the house, now reduced to smoldering ruins under the cold, unforgiving winter sky.
This fire was one of those unforgettable events where you see firsthand just how dangerous and unpredictable fires can be—especially when Mother Nature decides to throw everything she’s got at you.
