Still and Box Alarm fire in Chicago, 9-16-18

Here's what Steve Redick shared:

Recently, I happened to be nearby when a small fire broke out just a short walk from Engine 11's station. I got there fairly quickly, but by the time I figured out exactly where the flames were coming from, most of the action was over. There was already a hose line deployed from Truck 9's ladder, but it seemed like the firefighters inside had things under control pretty quickly. I remember seeing one person being tended to by medics.

I’ve always been impressed by how quickly they manage these situations. It’s a reminder of why we need such dedicated professionals on standby around the clock. The photos really capture the intensity and focus of the moment. Looking back, it was kind of surreal to witness something so serious unfold so close to home, yet knowing that everything was handled safely and efficiently.

Firefighting isn’t just about strength—it’s also about strategy, teamwork, and staying calm under pressure. Seeing them work together made me appreciate their efforts even more. And while I don’t know the specifics of what caused this fire, I’m grateful for the firefighters who were there to make sure it didn’t escalate further.
