Chicago Heights Box Alarm 12-24
Chicago Heights firefighters responded to a fire at a vacant two-story building yesterday. Upon arrival, the first units encountered a 35x40 structure with heavy smoke and intense flames. The fire, which is currently under investigation and believed to be of suspicious origin, destroyed the building, which housed apartments above a vacant storefront. Multiple fire departments from surrounding areas, including Matteson, Park Forest, South Chicago Heights, Flossmoor, Steger, Crete, and Homewood, provided mutual aid to assist in the effort.
The fire was reported around 11:00 AM in the 200 block of US Route 30. Firefighters faced challenging conditions as they worked to contain the blaze, which spread quickly through the vacant structure.
