A few photos from this morning's 2-11 alarm on the 5400 block of South Kedzie. The time was 05:47 AM. Engines 88 and 123, Tower Ladder 39, and Truck 52 were dispatched, with Battalion 20’s RIT team including Truck 41. Battalion 19 reported a fire in a single-story, ordinary 100x50-foot commercial strip mall, which seemed to have originated in the liquor store. Both Engine 88 and Engine 123 were operating in Sector 1 along Kedzie, alongside the Tower and Squad 5a. Box reinforcements arrived at 05:57 AM with Engines 65 and 34. Engine 34 was stationed at the entrance of the alley on 54th Place in Sector 3, while Tower Ladder 54 was set up in Sector 4 on 54th Place. At 06:14 AM, the situation escalated into a defensive operation. Battalion 4, acting as Safety Chief, monitored progress from the roof of the adjoining building to the north. Engine 65 also deployed a hose line from this position. When I arrived, Sector 3 was thick with smoke, and a discarded hand line was visible through the back of one of the businesses. The 2-11 alarm was called off around 07:20 AM.
