Autodesk BIM 360 Design Expands Global Collaboration Options With Europe Data Center

Autodesk BIM 360 Design, a key component of Autodesk Construction Cloud, continues to evolve with new features and services aimed at enhancing collaboration and data management. Recently, the platform launched a Europe-based data center, offering primary storage for project data, which addresses growing global demand and provides customers with more flexibility in data location. Additionally, BIM 360 Design now integrates with Collaboration for Plant 3D, expanding its capabilities for plant design teams. Used across more than 150 countries and supporting around 40,000 projects, BIM 360 Design enables real-time collaboration among architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) professionals, whether they're working within their own company or with external partners and disciplines. The expansion into Europe reflects the increasing popularity of the platform and the need for localized data solutions. Nicolas Mangon, Vice President of AEC Business Strategy and Marketing at Autodesk, highlighted the surge in cloud collaboration users over the past two years, attributing it to the rising complexity of projects and teams. "In these unprecedented times, there's a greater need for project continuity and team flexibility," he said. "Teams must stay on track from anywhere, anytime." Indeed, the number of BIM 360 Design subscribers in Europe nearly doubled in Q1FY20 alone, while global new project creation surged by about 350% after work conditions shifted from office to remote settings in mid-February. As part of Autodesk’s response to the pandemic, BIM 360 Design for Revit was made available for free until May 31, 2020, through the Extended Access Program. Alex Mortiboys, Head of BIM at Dutch firm Office of Metropolitan Architecture (OMA), emphasized the importance of cloud collaboration in their workflow. “We’ve placed cloud-based collaboration at the core of our practice,” he said. “With the European data center, we can better serve our clients across Europe and beyond, improving efficiency and transparency.” Beyond the data center, BIM 360 Design now includes a connection to AutoCAD Plant 3D. This integration, alongside existing support for Revit and Civil 3D, allows plant designers and engineers to manage access permissions more effectively, share files securely, and collaborate seamlessly across time zones, disciplines, and organizations. Dave Reed, Technology Manager at Black & Veatch, praised the integration: “With AutoCAD Plant 3D, BIM 360 offers a single source for all work-in-progress data, simplifying access for our global teams and boosting collaboration without requiring specialized IT systems.” He added that the partnership with Autodesk has been vital to their digital transformation. BIM 360 Design, as part of Autodesk Construction Cloud, is helping teams stay connected in the cloud and deliver high-quality results for clients. Whether you're managing large-scale infrastructure or complex building projects, the platform supports seamless collaboration, secure data management, and efficient workflows—ensuring your team stays productive and connected, no matter where they are.
