Autodesk BIM 360 Design Expands Global Collaboration Options With Europe Data Center
Autodesk BIM 360 Design, a key component of Autodesk Construction Cloud, continues to evolve by introducing essential features and services. One of the latest additions is a Europe-based data center, offering primary storage for project data, which enhances data security and compliance for users in the region. Additionally, BIM 360 Design now integrates with Collaboration for Plant 3D, expanding its capabilities for plant design professionals.
Used across more than 150 countries and supporting around 40,000 projects, BIM 360 Design empowers architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) professionals to collaborate in real time from anywhere—whether within their own company or with external partners and disciplines. This cloud-based platform supports seamless communication, file sharing, and version control, making it an essential tool for modern construction workflows.
The introduction of the European data center reflects the growing demand for localized data storage and improved performance for users in the region. It also aligns with the increasing global adoption of BIM 360 Design, as more teams seek flexibility and reliability in their digital collaboration tools.
Nicolas Mangon, Vice President of AEC Business Strategy and Marketing at Autodesk, noted that the rapid growth in BIM 360 Design users over the past two years highlights the rising complexity of projects and the need for more efficient team collaboration. "In these unprecedented times, there's a stronger need for project continuity and team flexibility, regardless of where or when work is being done," he said.
Indeed, the number of BIM 360 Design subscribers in Europe nearly doubled in the first quarter of FY20 alone. Globally, the rate of new project creation increased by approximately 350% after remote working became the norm in mid-February. In response to the challenges posed by the pandemic, Autodesk offered free access to BIM 360 Design for Revit through its Extended Access Program until May 31, 2020.
"Cloud-based collaboration has become central to our design process," said Alex Mortiboys, Head of BIM at Dutch architecture firm OMA. "With the confidence that comes from having a European data center, we can better serve our clients across Europe and beyond, improving efficiency and transparency."
Beyond the new data center, BIM 360 Design now includes a direct connection to AutoCAD Plant 3D. This integration expands the platform’s reach, allowing plant designers and engineers to manage access permissions, share files securely, and collaborate more effectively across different time zones and organizations.
Black & Veatch, a leading engineering firm, has leveraged this new feature to streamline its global operations. "With AutoCAD Plant 3D integration, BIM 360 provides a single source of truth for all project data," said Dave Reed, Technology Manager at Black & Veatch. "This simplifies access for our teams and enhances both internal and external collaboration without requiring specialized IT systems."
As the construction industry continues to embrace digital transformation, BIM 360 Design remains a vital tool for teams looking to stay connected, improve productivity, and deliver high-quality results. Whether you're managing a small project or a large-scale development, BIM 360 Design helps your team stay on track, no matter where they are.
