Antioch Rescue Squad: 2 members facing discipline
The *Daily Herald* has published a series of articles detailing an ongoing investigation by the Illinois Department of Public Health into the Antioch Rescue Squad. The probe involves disciplinary actions against several members, including allegations of misconduct, abuse, and unauthorized medical practices.
Two EMTs, Kyle Shouse and Chris McBrady, are under scrutiny for potentially losing their licenses due to serious accusations. According to state officials, they are being investigated for alleged mistreatment of both patients and coworkers. The charges include tampering with medication, such as adding prescription drugs like Lasix and Benadryl to the food and drinks of unsuspecting EMTs during shifts. Additionally, both individuals are accused of stealing prescription-only IV solutions and administering them without proper authorization.
Shouse is also facing separate allegations of reporting for duty while under the influence of alcohol and mistreating patients. One specific incident involved him striking a psychiatric patient with a clipboard, yelling at another, and unnecessarily restraining a third. Meanwhile, McBrady is accused of administering medications without consent, falsifying patient care reports, and even throwing a patient’s walker while using inappropriate language toward a patient. He is also charged with refusing to transport a patient who later suffered from an aneurysm.
A third member, Ethan Bolin, is facing a potential license suspension for taking a prescription-only IV solution and having another EMT administer it to him. Attempts to contact Bolin for comment were unsuccessful.
While it remains unclear whether Shouse, McBrady, or Bolin are still employed by the Antioch Rescue Squad, the incidents allegedly occurred after 2008. The Illinois Department of Public Health is currently reviewing the evidence and will determine if these individuals should be barred from working in emergency medical services again.
