2-Alarm house fire in Evanston – 3/20/15
This afternoon (March 20, 2015), I witnessed a pretty intense two-alarm fire in Evanston at 2820 Harrison Street. The flames were fierce, spreading quickly and even burning right through the roof of the house. These photos I took really capture the chaos and power of the situation.
The first image shows the fire blazing through the rooftop, with thick plumes of smoke billowing into the sky. It's absolutely breathtaking, yet terrifying to see how rapidly the fire spreads. You can almost feel the heat radiating off the screen.
In another shot, you can see firefighters hard at work, battling the smoke and flames. Their presence is crucial, and it’s clear they’re doing everything they can to control the situation. It’s a reminder of their bravery and dedication.
There’s also an incredible silhouette of a firefighter scaling an aerial ladder against the backdrop of the fiery inferno. It’s such a striking image, capturing both the danger and the heroism involved.
Looking at the aftermath, there’s one photo that really hits home. It shows the charred remains of the attic, a stark contrast to what was likely once a warm and cozy space. It’s a somber reminder of how quickly things can change.
The final images showcase the massive aerial trucks that arrived on the scene, their bright red color standing out amidst the destruction. They look like giants in the firefighting world, ready to take on any challenge.
All these photos were taken by my friend Tim Olk, who happened to be nearby when this all went down. His timing couldn’t have been better, as he managed to capture some truly unforgettable moments. It’s crazy to think about how something so devastating can lead to such powerful imagery.
