Autodesk University 2020 was an incredible week filled with exciting updates, new tool releases, and meaningful interactions. While it wasn’t the in-person event we’re used to, the virtual format brought a fresh and more personal way to connect with both our community and Autodesk team members. It felt like we were all in this together, working toward the same goals. One of the most significant highlights for me this week was the announcement of our acquisition of Spacemaker. This is a move I’m truly passionate about. Spacemaker will join our Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) Design Solutions Group, bringing powerful AI-driven automation to help architects and owners make smarter, faster design decisions. The legal team would like to remind you that this transaction is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to be completed by January 31, 2021, during Autodesk’s fiscal fourth quarter. Founded in 2016 in Oslo, Norway, Spacemaker has developed a cloud-based AI platform that helps architects, urban designers, and real estate developers optimize building sites early in the design process. Their technology not only improves efficiency but also supports more sustainable and thoughtful design choices from the very beginning. This kind of innovation aligns perfectly with what our customers are asking for—better data, more automation, and deeper insights to support their decision-making processes. Spacemaker’s success so far is driven by its talented team of 110 employees, with over 60% being technical experts. From software engineers and data scientists to designers and architects, they bring a unique blend of skills that tackle complex challenges in the AEC industry. In fact, their CEO and co-founder, Havard Haukeland, started as an architect before becoming an entrepreneur, which speaks volumes about their deep understanding of the design process. With Spacemaker in our portfolio, customers will have access to tools that allow them to explore multiple design variations while optimizing them based on specific site requirements. This means more time for creativity and less time spent on repetitive tasks. Over the next few months, we’ll work closely with the Spacemaker team to grow their business and integrate their technology into our existing product suite. We see great potential in combining their capabilities with tools like FormIt and Revit, creating seamless workflows that enhance productivity and collaboration across teams. Additionally, Spacemaker complements our existing analysis tools, such as Insight, and we're excited about the opportunities to improve sustainability analysis for our users. This acquisition isn’t just about adding another product—it's about accelerating automation and innovation in BIM to support the future of the construction industry. I’m genuinely excited to welcome the Spacemaker team to Autodesk. This is another step forward in our commitment to delivering tools that empower your work and shape the future of design.  Safe Harbor Statement This post contains forward-looking statements that involve risks and uncertainties, including statements regarding: the planned Spacemaker acquisition, the impact of the acquisition on Autodesk’s business and performance; the impact of the transaction on Autodesk’s and Spacemaker’s products and services capabilities, customers, and partners; and Autodesk’s strategic priorities.
