This message comes from Eric Haak: I had the chance to attend a live-fire training session in La Grange Park on Sunday morning, October 4th. Fire crews from both the La Grange and La Grange Park fire departments conducted several exercises simulating fires on the first and second floors of a frame structure. The building was scheduled for demolition to make way for a new home on the lot and was the oldest house in that part of the neighborhood. It was interesting to hear from the granddaughter of the original owners, who shared some nostalgic memories of the area—like how cows used to wander down the dirt road in front of the house.
As the training progressed and smoke filled the air, something unexpected happened: a raccoon came out of the eaves and made a quick dash for safety before things got too intense. It was a nice moment of wildlife interaction amidst the training. I want to thank all the crews involved for their professionalism and for allowing me to witness such an important part of their preparation. It's always a privilege to see the dedication of our first responders.
