Divers help remove car from pond in Vernon Hills 5-21-20
On Monday afternoon, the Countryside Fire Protection District responded to a reported car accident at the intersection of Lakeview Parkway and North Fairway Drive in Vernon Hills. Witnesses indicated that one vehicle had crashed into a nearby retention pond, with the driver still inside. In response, divers from the Libertyville Fire Department and the Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District were dispatched to the scene.
The driver managed to exit the submerged vehicle and was seen sitting on the roof when emergency crews arrived. With help from bystanders, he was safely pulled from the water. Both drivers sustained minor injuries and were taken to the hospital for evaluation.
Firefighters entered the pond to secure the SUV for removal by Ernie’s Wrecker Service, which was on site to handle both vehicles. Divers attached straps to the car to facilitate its recovery, ensuring it could be winched out of the water safely.
