Chicago Fire Department Haz Mat Level I, 6-14-15

Here's a message from Eric Haak:

The outbound lanes of the Bishop Ford Freeway (I-94) were closed near 137th Street for nearly three hours after a semi-truck crashed into the median, causing damage to the saddle tank. Another vehicle was also involved in the accident. The crash occurred on the incline just before the Steel Bridge, which led to diesel fuel spilling downhill toward the shoulder. Firefighters from Engine 80 and Truck 62 arrived first, deployed a line, and began containing the spill. Engine 75 took position on the off-ramp leading to Beaubien Woods and set up a second line. The incident happened around 4:55 PM, and emergency crews remained on scene until 7:45 PM when the State Police finally reopened the expressway. The situation was handled quickly, but the traffic disruption was significant for commuters heading east.
