Aligning Value with Usage and Outcomes: Introducing Flex

As part of our ongoing commitment to delivering flexible purchasing options that reflect real value based on usage and results, we’re excited to introduce **Flex**—a groundbreaking new offering that combines the advantages of a named user model with the convenience of a pay-as-you-go structure. Flex became available on **September 24**.

We are one of the first in the industry to offer a consumption-based model, which complements our core subscriptions and benefits businesses of all sizes. For existing customers, Flex helps ensure they get the most out of Autodesk products while also giving them the opportunity to explore new tools in our portfolio. New customers can now try our software at a lower cost, without needing a long-term subscription.

Meeting Customers Where They Are

“We can’t predict what a design team will need at the start of the year. It depends on the projects that come up, so flexibility is key. Flex lets us adapt without committing to a big budget upfront.” – Donogh McGrath, Director of Information Security & Vendor Management

Our goal is to help customers achieve great outcomes by offering solutions that fit their unique needs. We've always believed in the potential of a flexible, pay-as-you-go model, especially after seeing success with our enterprise offerings. The shift to a named user model gave us valuable insights into how users actually engage with our products. It became clear that not everyone needs daily access to a subscription. That’s where Flex comes in. This pay-as-you-go option fills a gap in our product lineup, working alongside or independently from subscriptions. It makes it easier for new customers to get started without a large initial investment. Most of our products are now accessible to users who only need occasional access.

Benefits of Flex & How It Works

Flex is designed to be simple and intuitive, much like other pay-as-you-go models. Users can manage their access as needed—whether setting individual controls for each user or using default assignments for a more hands-off approach. Just like with a single-user subscription, Flex provides detailed insights into user activity and product usage. Flex allows customers to:
  1. Try new products with ease
  2. Save costs by paying only for what they use
  3. Boost productivity with faster procurement and less administrative work

Steps for using Flex.

What’s Next?

At Autodesk, we're continuously looking for ways to innovate and support our customers—regardless of size or need. Flex is a step forward in that journey, and we're confident it will become a valuable tool for many. We’re excited to see how both new and existing users will leverage Flex to create, design, and build a better future.
